If you really want this for a child, try using a thread or fingerling yarn and a smaller hook. Just a suggestion and I have no idea if it would work.

Talk about a quick costume. Even though these were made for an adult, they still may not be suitable for me, lol. What a cute idea though. Saving this one for future reference if I am in need of a mermaid costume.
