The motif for this hat is actually worked as part of the hat itself, not as a separate appliqu. Although the chart itself is wonderful, the designer doesnt explain the process very well. If you read through all the comments below her pattern, youll see she has to clarify what she means repeatedly. At the very least, she should have posted the link to working from a chart in the body of the pattern itself.

I made this for my 22 yo son. Not only did he say it was cute but within 5 min said his friend wanted one, too. Not an easy task. Mom is cool again! Thanks.
