It is almost time for a different kind of hat. Now that spring is fast approaching, this would be the perfect project to complete and be ready to were on those first warm days of spring. I like the idea of a white hat but for me, it would not be white long. I am considering an off white or tan and if it turns out I may make another in a bolder color for summer.

Such a pretty hat. I like that the designer used crochet flowers for embellishment. The open weave will be a welcome relief for some breeze when the weather warms up. For spring, the brim is just right. Need to be on the scout for a larger brimmed hat for the much hotter summer months. Great pattern.

This is such a pretty, lacy hatand worked up in cotton, perfect for summer. At the linked site, the designer only provides instructions for the adult version but there is an additional link for toddler size. There is also a link to a rather detailed entry about how to make a hat in any size. This would work with single stitches, but Im not sure about when you need multiple stitches to complete a pattern like a shell.

The PDF version has just arrived by email, with appologies for the delay. It looks much easier to follow than the webpage version. I usually make hats and other things without a pattern as I was taught to crochet without a pattern when I was six years old. Now at 73 and the arrival of a great granddaughter, I decided to take my hooks up again after more than 20 years of not crocheting, and have just started to try and follow some patterns. I have just started to use cotton and needed something to guage the amount of stiches for different thickness yarns. I made my first two cotton doilies from a pattern and feel like I've acheived one goal.

I paid for the PDF version yesterday. It was supposed to be emailed to me within a couple of hours. It still hasn't arrived. It wasn't a large amount and I certainly won't be sending anymore money. I would advise you all to not pay for the PDF version of any patterns off this person. Only three stars for this persons reluctance in emailing the pattern after recieving the money through PayPal.

This isn't a free download. Should not be advertised as a free pattern, she just wants money.

I cannot download this pattern and several others I have tried. I have tried everything I know how and I have been instructed. I feel I am being used to finance this website (which is OK) but I cannot get anything FREE from it for using my name. I am disappointed.

@dnjhayes 2768097, Thank you for your message. We suggest that you go to the page and highlight the text, then right-click on it. You'll get a window that gives you the option to "copy." Do that, and then paste the text into a word document. You should be able print that document that way. Another option is to highlight exactly what you would like to be printed. Then, select print from your drop-down menu, and change your print range from all to selection. -the editors of AllFreeCrochet

what is the difference between crochet yarn and crochet thread as this confuses me. Thank you, pat.

Pat, the difference is in size/wt. Crochet THREAD is usually cotton or a cotton blend and is so small in size that the tiniest steel crochet hooks are used. Common items made from crochet thread are doilies, lace and some dainty baby booties. For this pattern, I would say that a cotton yarn along the size of Peaches 'n Cream or Sugar and Cream yarn similar to what is used to make potholders and washcloths would be appropriate for this hat pattern.

Hi, i am from england ,and i LOVE the hat pattern. aia would love to know what ply it is made in, as the yarn is very different and the hook sizes are as well. Please advise me on these, as i would love to make it in a small size as well for my great grandchild. Many thanks, kind regards, pat.

I am English, about to attempt making this as have an urge to hook something :) Would say that a 5mm hook would suggest an aran weight which is close to the USA Worsted Weight (4). It is a lacy pattern so I think I would try that first...if not..you could try two strands of dk or 4ply/3ply in the same hook size 5mm and check the gauge :) depending on age of grandchild..you would change the increase and work the sides and brim the same just with reduced number of stitches ...shout if you need more help..off to hook it now x

I love this pattern. I'm on my third hat. I was able to increase the number of stitches in the last row before the shell pattern started to make it bigger because I have a big head. You need 4 extra stitches for every shell you might want to add.
