As I am new to crochet it would be easier if you could say whether you need to make an even or odd number of chains and also to start from the beginning from making the chains so we can see what to do at the beginning and end of each row I would like to make squares for a blanket in this stitch

You saved my afghan! I have looked at several videos and directions for the Popcorn Stitch. In your video, I realized there was a "skip a stitch" included, after the popcorn is completed. My rows didn't look like the pictures included in the pattern. I might have given up on the idea of getting back into crocheting after a 40 year hiatus. Thank you!

Hi kaiisawesome, Yes, the Popcorn Stitch is easy to work. It's a cluster stitch, meaning that it mostly involves crocheting multiple stitches into one chain space. Watch the video and give it a try! Julia, editor of AllFreeCrochet

What a cute stitch! I'm definitely trying this out when I get home. I love videos for crochet instructions because you can stop and go back whenever you missed something, or need to see it again.
