The single crochet method s are great ideas IF your square edges are in the shell stitch I make mine with an edging of double crochet This of course makes using the gaps impossible Thus I single crochet literally across each square Now If I have multiple colored squares that are intended to make a pattern I lay it all out to achieve this pattern by the number of squares across and the number of squares long down As an example squares by squares I gather each row in the sequence of color I want THAT row to have and pin a 'marker' on it with its designated row i e Row etc and put a rubber band around each 'set' Now I make end up with rows of squares each or rows of squares each - my choice depending on complexity of pattern Now I begin the task of pinning…Read More each square in the row block together so that as I single crochet each square to the other the pattern will remain intact and edges match It's the 'cross-over' row between one row and the other that is always the problem for it's thick and difficult to push the hook through and getting the single crochet to lay 'flat' especially at these junctions is not easy The affect is much like yours save that my squares do not end in sets of double crochets I used to use your method but found in time that the yarn would snap be that from using the item or wear and tear With the single crochet I've yet to find any lapgan afghan or blanket to have the seams unravel ALSO I weave my 'tails' into the back of each single crochet as I go along sandwich like and thus don't have to have pieces hanging out This is just how I do it only because of my edging Thank you for your interesting video and good ideas I do think next time I put one together with my double crochet edge I will do as you did and put a chain stitch between squares Again thank you Helene Bigler Marysville WA
