Donna Mason-Svara
Donna Mason-Svara is married and has been with her husband Danny for over 30 years. She is a mom to a thirty-something-year-old son who lives in Minnesota and is married a woman born, raised and schooled in Italy.
Donna works full-time in service to the State of Kentucky and every spare moment when she's on a break or at home, she's designing, crocheting and knitting. Donna got bit by the yarn bug at the age 12 as she watched her mother crochet ponchos back in the hippie days for her sister and herself. When Donna was about 14 in the early 70's, she would take her babysitting money and walk about 4 miles into town to the five and dime store where she bought a crochet book, hook and a skein of yarn. She secretly taught herself to make a simple hat from a pattern, but she didn't like something about the finished hat. Donna modified the pattern and, to this day, she remembers the modified pattern but not the original pattern. Donna dabbled a bit in the 80's crocheting pineapple doilies and table cloths and once again had to re-teach herself how to crochet. Twenty years later, in 2008 when she watched her niece knit a hat, she got bit by the yarn bug and it got her back in the mood to try again to learn how to crochet and knit. Donna re-taught herself again and the rest is history. She decided to offer her first pattern out on the Internet, and once she saw the interest, she developed more and it just took off.
