I am also having problems. I finished the whole bag and it was a struggle to try to keep to the right number of stitches and shells and in the end it was crooked. I took it completely apart and started over. I ended up with one extra stitch on the last two rounds of the bottom, ok, no problem, will just skip a stitch on each round. now I am on the first round of shells. At the end of the bottom last round it states I should have 100 stitches so I made sure I did. following the pattern doing shell, skip 2 stitches, twice, then shell skip 4 stitches. Then repeat from star 8 times, repeating this at the other end it would take 110 stitches to be able to complete the round. Should it be only 7 repeats or should we only be skipping 3 instead of 4 stitches between shells? Thanks

I figured it out. You must have 110 stitches at the end of Round 5 for the first row of shells to work out.

Don't add extra stitches on the straight sides of the base. Add a few stitches around the corners though but just enough to keeep it flat so it doesn't curl or ruffle.
