Cabin on the Beach Afghan Square
"This easy crochet afghan pattern pays homage to the traditional Log Cabin quilt squares with a beachy crochet version! You can make this pattern into afghan blocks for a fun pieced afghan, or simply continue on for a fun continuous blanket pattern. This makes an excellent crochet stash buster- as you'll use just about 100 yards of each color for the 12" crochet afghan square blocks. Make it into a true scrap blanket, or use the colors of your choice for a cohesive look."

My grandmother had me helping cut quilt pieces from the time I was a very little girl. While all the intricate patterns fascinated me, I liked the humble Log Cabin best of all. This project takes those stripes to a new level by using Shell Stitches to give them uneven edges. Each stripe is worked directly onto the previous block just like a traditional Log Cabin. The finished square is only 12 inches, but you could easily join several for a throw.
