Flat Ruching Stitch
"You can use any yarn and a hook size that gives the right tension to the stitches. Use any number of starting chains depending on the width you'd like. This is a NEW stitch pattern you won't find anywhere else and it creates a modern look to crochet rows. It's quick and easy to learn. If you know how to crochet the single crochet stitch in front or back loops, you'll be able to do one of these rows as easy as pie."

This flat ruching stitch offers a lot of texture. For a beginning project I think I will attempt to use this crochet technique on something simple like a scarf. If I like it enough I may even make a throw or afghan with the stitch.

I would have never put ruching in the same category with crochet. They just do not seem to go together. I love to learn new crochet stitches and I am sure I will have a lot of fun with this one. Photos and a video tutorial are provided here. Grab some yarn and your hook and lets learn a new crochet technique.

Between a brief stint as a professional seamstress and a long career making doll clothes, I know all about ruching. I have never even considered that the look might be achieved using crochet. This technique is absolutely brilliant, uses only common stitches (with interesting twists), and can be easily mastered. Thank you, thank you, thank for introducing me to Charles Voth. I think Im in love!!!! He even looks like a young Norm Abram!
