Tawny Striped Sleeveless Top

"This easy pattern is worked sideways, so it's very easy to achieve the perfect fit! Repeat of 2 sections: 6 rows of a cream color and 2 rows of a contrasting color! Work until the garment fits across the chest. Then add a band at the top and bottom, and cuffs for the armholes. I used worsted weight yarn (Bernat Premium), and a 5.5 mm crochet hook. WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS BELOW THE VIDEO IN THE 1ST COMMENT."

Instructions
-
Worked sideways. Work a foundation chain any length in an ODD NUMBER, for the length you wish your sweater top to be.
-
Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook and each stitch of the chain. *Chain 1 and turn, working in the BACK SIDE of the stitch only, single crochet in each stitch across the row, beginning in the 2nd stitch from the hook. Repeat from * for 4 more rows.
-
Attach a contrasting color yarn. (Yarn can be carried along instead of cutting after each segment and enclosed within the stitches when working the bands.) Chain 1, single crochet in the first stitch, (Work in both loops for this row.) *In the next stitch work a long single crochet, inserting the hook into the bottom of the single crochet to create a “spike” stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, repeat from * across the row, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn, single crochet in the back loop across the row beginning in the 2nd stitch from the hook.
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the work will reach from one side to the other side of the body. Stretch slightly to fit across the chest. (6 rows in cream color, 2 rows in a contrasting color.)
-
WORK THE TOP BAND: Place stitch markers to identify the neckline, making sure it is large enough to be able to pull over the head. (Approx. 10- 11 inches). Attach yarn at one side of the rectangle worked, chain 2, double crochet in each stitch up to the marked stitch, then single crochet across the stitches identified as the neckline, then continue with double crochet stitches to the end of the row. Chain 2 and turn, dc in each dc across, sc in each sc across, then dc in the last dc stitches up to the end of the row, fasten off.
SEW THE 2 SECTIONS TOGETHER ACROSS THE SHOULDERS AND DOWN THE SIDES.
WORK THE ARM BANDS: Attach yarn at the underarm, chain 2, double crochet in the next 2 stitches, double crochet decrease in the next stitch (dc decrease: yarn around the hook, insert hook in the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn around the hook, insert into the next stitch, pull up a loop (5 loops on the hook), pick up the yarn and pull through all 5 loops on the hook.)
*Double crochet in the next 3 stitches, double crochet decrease in the next. Repeat from * around, at the end of the row, slip stitch to join in the top of the ch 2.
WORK THE BOTTOM BAND: Attach yarn at either side seam. Chain 2, work the same as the arm bands, making 3 dc, and then a decrease. If desired, one additional row of sc can be added for a firmer bottom band.
