I was wondering why this wrap was called touch of velvet so I took the time to visit the directions page. The yarn has been crafted to have the look of velvet and I have to admit the twenty colors I found do have a vintage color effect. The website in the directions is in the UK so I am on a mission to locate the yarn stateside.

This wrap or shawl is modern looking but with a vintage flair, and a bit of bohemian spirit thrown in there for good measure- with the beading crocheted into the piece. ONE time in my life I added beads to my work as I went along. It was for a rectangular shawl of my own design and it was a Christmas gift for my aunt. That was about 20 years ago. She still has it. As far as this wrap goes, may I substitute a yarn like the Lion Brand Mandala? I know it is a DK weight (3) and this pattern uses a DK weight yarn.

Ive seen some Velvet yarn in the craft stores, but havent bought any yet. This project is sorely tempting me to grab some the next time Im in the store. I can already see that Ill need to practice the designers Special Stitches, and for times like that, I keep some leftover skeins handy. Better to work out the kinks with some cheap yarn than spoiling the expensive. Wonderful video, too!

Isn't it wonderful when we get to combine two crafts we love! I really like the contrast in colors here even though I'm not usually a fan of the black/red trend. These yarns look lovely too! I've never added bead work in my yarn crafts so that'll be a first. Thanks for this pattern!

So pretty and it looks so elegant too! I have never seen Scheepjes Color Crafter Velvet yarns in South Africa so hopefully they are available online or I will have to ask my awesome local yarn store to find a substitute. Like the pattern suggests I will definitely be making one for a wonderful friend too because I know she is going to love it!

I love the look of this Touch of Velvet Wrap! The border makes this just beautiful with the beads and color that sets off the wrap. I like that there is a video to show how it's done and the written pattern is well written and easy to follow. As Hippie Chick said below, I think I will find a nice soft yarn to replace the yarn called for in the pattern. I saved this one and will be doing it, maybe as a mother's day gift then one for my self. This wrap would be great for the days and nights when it's just a little cooler then I like. Thank you for sharing this free crochet pattern.

Love the beaded trim on this shawl. It combines my two major hobbies, beading and crochet. Thats a double win for me. I am not familiar with these yarns and see they would need to be ordered from the UK. They appear to be a lightweight acrylic yarn so I am sure I can find an alternative .

I love the lacy border of this wrap. It gives this wrap a really stylish look!
