I was just thinking about working up a scarf in Houndstooth for my husband, and except for the color, this is exactly what I was looking for. I started working on a swatch, and came to a few conclusions. First, you need to work at least three pattern rows before the Houndstooth is evident. Secondly, there is absolutely a right and wrong side to the pattern, and lastly, use a softer yarn like Red Heart rather than the Caron One Pound (makes the scarf too stiff).

This is so pretty. It looks just like a Christmas peppermint candy. I am so glad I stumbled across this pattern today as I was taking a break from doing a little online shopping and decorating the Christmas tree. If I have the time, this would help me mark a few gifts off of my list for this year. Ho ho ho to me.
