Loved this idea so much that I have made three! And in different sizes, one is quite large. For the two smaller ones I used up leftovers, a mix of yarns and soft fabric strips and for the big one (which is 2m square!) I used soft fabric strips only and they are so gorgeous and soft that I found my youngest daughter lying on one reading her book the other day, lol!

Great look and not as expensive as buying it, if you use acrylic yarn... http//www.amazon.com/Lion-Brand-Yarn-Company-Quick == ie/dp/B00KKV0X88/ref=sr18?s=arts-craftsie=UTF8qid= == 1424115369sr=1-8

This looks like a tripping hazard to me. Aside from the fact that it is on a wood floor, it is also two levels. I am particularly aware of these dangers.

Why would anyone spend all of that money just to throw the darn thing on the floor and walk on it????

I have been wanting to make these for a while but like most I balked at the price of a "bump" of yarn. I've settled on making these in magnum yarn. It's about $20+ a skein which is still far more than I'm used to spending for yarn, but it's a much more reasonable price for us everday folk lol.

As far as cost goes there is no way I could afford this. But I did take this pattern and used recycled T-shirt yarn and a Q hook and it is working up fine.

is there a yarn that we can mix with alpaca to make it more affordable to use.

I checked out this pattern and it calls for an alpaca yarn made in the USA. It comes in a quantity called a "bump" and the pattern only takes two "bumps". So I checked out the yarn. Wow, I fell off my chair. $153.00 a "bump" . I'm afraid I'm going to have cold feet this winter.
