Neutral Stripes Crochet Basket

"I love making crochet baskets, especially out of cotton yarn. I prefer using cotton for two reasons: first, it doesn't pill (or get fuzzy) with wear or repeated use but most importantly because cotton yarn doesn't have a whole lot of stretch once its worked up. That's a huge plus for a crochet basket! What are they good for? The cotton crochet basket pattern is quick, easy and extra versatile. I typically use them as accent decor in my home as shown above, but they are wonderfully practical as well! Use them to organize your craft room, fill cubbies in your accent table, make the centerpiece of your dining room table - you name it, a cotton crochet basket is almost always your answer (at least in my humble opinion)."

Just now while looking at this pattern, my husband walked by the computer screen and made a comment that I had to laugh at. He asked me, "Why in the world are you looking at basket?" I guess I have a love of baskets and I am either dragging them in from the thrift store of making them. They are so practical. Who does not love a storage basket?

Either that is a very large pine cone or this is a very small basket. By the measurement, 7" x 4" I would say, a small basket. I suppose adding a few extra rounds in the beginning will make a larger basket if that is needed. This particular basket would be perfect in small spaces to hold small things. Maybe even as a pencil holder on a desk.

I am an avid basket collector, and I have the perfect place for this sweet little example. princess6860504 is absolutely right about using neutrals. This is so nuanced that it would work with just about any dcor. If youre using cotton yarn (highly recommended), you can also consider blocking it with a true fabric stiffener, and letting it dry over a similar shape. I will want my basket to hold up to at least a little wear and tear.

I am loving this modern looking cotton basket. I love her neutral color combination along with the color blocking. Cotton yarn will really hold shape better than a basic worsted weight- unless you like to crochet with a double strand of that worsted weight! Plus, the cotton yarns have a tendency to be intensely color saturated.
