Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
MATERIALS:
- Red Heart® Celebration™: 1 ball each 9340 Aqua/Silver A, 9740 Pink /Silver B, 9240 Lime/Silver C, 9840 Blue/Silver D, 9640 Gold/ Silver E, and 9540 Purple/Silver F
- Red Heart® Holiday®: 1 ball 140 White/Silver G
- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
- Tape measure
- 18” (45.7 cm) Straw or Styrofoam WreatH
- Susan Bates® Pom-Pom Maker
SIZE: 18” (45.7 cm)
GAUGE: Gauge is not important for this project.
NOTE:
For easier wreath wrapping, make 3” (7.6 cm) balls of each yarn color. If using a straw wreath, leave the plastic wrap on the wreath.
Wrapping the Wreath:
Measure the circumference of the 18” (45.7 cm) wreath, approximately 56” (142 cm). To make wrapping easier, use a black pen and mark 12 equal parts around the outside of the wreath to indicate when to change the yarn color.
Wrap the wreath with A, B, C, D, E, and F on one side of the wreath and repeat on the other side.
With G, wrap 1” (2.5 cm) wide stripes between each color.
Weave in ends on the back of the wreath.
Finishing
Wreath Hanger:
With 1 strand each C, D, and F held together, make 22” (55.9 cm) chain, join with slip st in first ch. Fasten off, and weave in ends. Fold the hanger in half, wrap around the top of the wreath and pull one end of the hanger through the other end to secure. Pull the remaining loop to the back of the wreath.
Pom-Poms:
Make 1” (2.5 cm) pom-poms with A and E.
Make a 2” 5.1 cm) pom-pom with B. Attach to the wreath hanger so pom-poms hang in the center of the wreath.
ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain; cm = centimeters; mm = millimeters; st(s) = stitch(es); yo = yarn over

As an art teacher I probably think a lot different than most people. I am always trying to incorporate color in the classroom in any form that can be used at a teachable moment. I plan to make this as Roy G. Biv and hang it as a teaching aid. The wreath offers decoration and at the same time a learning tool. Thanks for sharing this project.

For the sewer, does this look like spools of thread? That is what I saw when I first looked at this wreath. You can not get much easier than this project. You can get it accomplished in little to no time and have a great looking wreath to hang on your door. Saving this for a project with my ladies group.

Now this is the kind of DIY craft that is family friendly and scout or youth group approved! You know the kind that can be finished in one take and not over the course of 24-48 hours where you have to let glue or paint dry. It is also the kind of project that lends itself to your own creativity- you can't make a mistake!

So simple and great colors! It actually looks like a ring of rolls of thread! I think I might do a sewing theme with it and stick some knitting needles through it!

Here I go again. Every time I see something like this my mind jumps ahead to how I can redesign it. First of all it's very nice but think of it with red and white for Valentines Day, or Red , white and blue for patriotic days. I can see green, white and orange for Saint Patrick's Day. You can tie the yarn so you could remove it and reuse the colors. I was thinking pastel colors in pink, blue, aqua and yellow for Spring! Oh I am dying to get stArted now!

"Happy-Life Preserver Wreath" And I don't see why this counts as "crochet." Just because you crochet a few chains that could just as easily be knit I-cord or kumihimo?

I think it should be named "Colorful PomPom Wreath". It could be made in any color for any season, but would not be nearly as pretty without the pom poms.

"All Year Rainbow Wreath" is theimmediate thought that came to mind. But, ou could easily change it to an any occasion wreath by just changing the colors you use to make it. Green, Red, Metallic Gold and White for Christmas, Oranges,, Browns, and various golds and yellows for fall, etc. I just love it and it is so easy, you could even involve your children if you so desired!
