It does work out great making your ribbed band first, so that you can custom fit it to your head. It will not affect the working of the shell pattern in any way. The cobalt blue is beautiful and the shells give it a more dainty look for the females in your tribe. I think this would be pretty in a taupe color for those who are afraid of color, too.

The Simple shell slouchy hat is an Easy Peasy pattern for the newbie learning to crochet. Or the advanced crocheter could whip out several while watching your favorite tv show. Very cute pattern and easy to read pattern!
