Once summer is in full swing, I practically live in wide brim hats. So finding the pattern is a real treat for me. Most commercial gardening hats dont have nearly a wide enough brim. This pattern is very easy to follow, but I would add one additional step. You will want to sew in a terry cloth band where the hat meets your head. This helps absorb any perspiration and cushions against any prickles from the raffia.

Wow, this cool and breezy sun hat has a real 70's vibe to it! I see that we can stop crocheting at any point, when we get to the brim size that we want. It makes it really easy to customize. Have you worked with the rafia yarn before? Is it scratchy at all? Could I work this up using 100% cotton yarn as a substitute? Would it hold shape? Thanks -)
