Jack the Pumpkin Hat
"Jack the Pumpkin Hat is great for fall trips to the pumpkin patch in search of your perfect pumpkin and later for carving that pumpkin in the cold. Sizes included newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, toddler, and child. Finished sizes: Newborn - 14″ circumference, 6″ long; 3-6 Month - 17″ circumference, 7″ long; 6-12 Month - 18″ circumference, 7 1/2″ long; Toddler - 19″ circumference, 8″ long; Child - 20″ circumference, 8 1/2″ long. Materials: Worsted-4 weight yarn Newborn - about 50 yards; 3-6 Month - about 65 yards; 6-12 Month - about 70 yards; Toddler - about 90 yards; Child - about 90 yards; J-10 (6.00mm) crochet hook; Stuffing; Fabric scissors; Yarn needle, to weave ends."

This clever idea for a hat almost perfectly duplicates what I do with real pumpkins on my front porch. On one side, I paint a Jack oLantern face with black acrylic paint. The other side I leave blank. For a few weeks before Halloween, out come the witches and bats and spooky stuff. November 1, I turn the big pumpkin around to the blank side and return the basket of pie pumpkins and gourds. Doesnt get easier than that.
