I couldnt quite reconcile the pattern with the project because in the photo, the pencil topper looks flat. It is, in fact, a sphere as each row creates one segment. Once the final (10th) segment is worked, the sphere is sewn together and stuffed. I had to work it up in order to sort out exactly how its done. A few photos would have cleared up the mystery.
