This is a lovely pattern from a new designer whose blog I have never visited before. This blanket is for an intermediate level crocheter, so if you are new to crochet you will want to look around her blog to see if she has a beginner project available before you jump right in to this one.

Theres nothing spectacular about this blanket as its just a solid version of a granny square that keeps on growing larger. But it would be very warm since it has such close stitches. The picot edging sets it apart and is not too frilly for a boys blanket. I really like the color combination though. It does reflect the colors of the sea and sky.

This is a pretty preemie blanket, worked from the center out. The neutral tones are nice, especially for a boy, but I would change the colors some for a girl, maybe white or light yellow instead of the gray. What's nice is that you could make this pattern smaller if needed for a preemie who weighs less than 6 pounds.
