How to Crochet a Chainless Foundation
Chainless foundation crochet is a unique way to start a project.
In this video tutorial, Connie Haney teaches you how to crochet a chainless foundation, which is useful in projects that require a little more stretch. If you want to learn how to crochet, this technique is essential!
This chainless foundation crochet tutorial is perfect for crocheters who want their work to have a stretchy end, such as when crocheting a sock from the top down or sweaters with a less restricting bottom. It's an awesome alternative to a regular foundation row for when you need that stretch.

This is the most concise tutorial on this that I have found. Thank you for going slow and including each piece of information. Now all I need to do is practice and remember!

I love using a Chainless Foundation. Its so handy when you have a project that requires long chains. By using the CF technique, I find I have a lot fewer problems with the yarn twisting. Plus its a lot easier to work with my slightly damaged hands. This video does a wonderful job explaining how to work the stitch as well as its benefits over a regular Chain and Stitch.

I've wondered how to do this ever since I heard of it... I've crocheted since I was nine, and in the 40 years that followed, no one ever did this! It's so easy, how could I not know this? lol THANK YOU!!!

So cool. You did a great job. A lot of these videos are done so fast or not close up like you did & you showed the steps clearly more than once so I could follow. Can't wait to try it on something

This far and away the BEST explanation I have ever seen of this stitch. I have watched two or three other videos and read a dozen sets of instructions. Great Job to Mikey and Connie. Thanks BTW to the person wanting printed instructions......just search on Google, there are a dozen places to get this in print

To Member 6543288: If you save the video to your favorites it will always be there for you when you want to go back to it. Just click on favorites - add to favorites & name your folder. The way you save your favorites might be a little different so you may want to ask for help if you don't do very much saving. I have stuff that I have saved for 5 - 6 yrs. (videos also). Good luck.

Connie, you are the best! I watched this video one time and couldn't get it out of my head till I got a hook & yarn out to try it. I followed along with you, watching the video a second time and WOW, i never learned a stitch so quickly. I'm headed to the next video. Thank You so much!

I agree. While the video is helpful, and well understood; written instructions can be used as a reference, repeated.

EXCELLENT video and instructions. The best explanation of chainless foundation I have ever seen. kjravenw/fairywren try playing video again. I saw the part where she explains turning ... no skips in the video I watched.

Too bad this video does not show how to turn the work. It is skipping a few frames. She says, "turn as usual" but if a person does not know how to, it's not helpful. OTHERWISE a good video.

I think if we were able to play more with yarn instead of being so focused on our projects to gift we'd realize a few more shortcuts and think outside the box more. I appreciate all the help and guidance from everyone during my short time of learning to crochet. When repeating favorite projects, I do "adjust" instructions and tend to not fasten off as much as suggested. Thank you for all you do to help us, Carol. :)

I believe I could learn everything I ever wanted to know about how to crochet from Carol Haney. I have read instructions on Chainless Foundations before and could not quite get it. She was so clear, her voice was so easy to listen to and her yarn and hook were big enough to be easily seen, that I know I can do this easily. Thank you for featuring her and the You Tube Video.
