Baby Humpback Whale
"Here's a medium-sized humpback whale softie that's perfect for cuddling! I thought it might be interesting to base a crochet project on a sewing template, so this whale is actually worked flat, row by row. The top section is separate from the bottom section, and both are worked flat in one piece. Then both pieces are sewn together using a mattress stitch, which ends up making the seam invisible! The fins are also sewn right into the whale instead of attached after the whale is complete. Enjoy!"

As adorable as the whale is, whats even more interesting is reading the authors thoughts on how she created this project. The original whale was a friends design made from fabric, and the author details her attempts at replicating the shape. Ive been a doll maker for many years, so I can well understand the process. No matter what pattern you make, you want something of it to be your own.
