Super Bulky Basket Weave Cowl
"Keep the cold off your face and neck with this super bulky cowl. It’s rigid enough to stand up around your mouth and nose without falling down - great for skiers and snowboarders - or just anyone who has to brave the cold and snowy winter! When using recommended yarn (Red Heart Mixology), cowl will be slightly stiff. If you’d like it to have a little more drape, use a slightly thinner super bulky yarn, the Caron Tea Cakes yarn works well. Pattern calls for a size 12mm crochet hook. You can experiment with yarn and hook size if you like, just use any multiple of 8 (+1) and you’ll be able to follow the pattern as written. Happy hooking, and stay warm!"

So I found this new pattern offering on allfreecrochet. I made a super bulky (and pink, too!) cowl last winter for my son't bus driver and she wore it all winter long. Mine was not a basketweave, but rather I think I used a half-double crochet throughout the entire piece. I didn't want to use a single crochet because it would make it really, really stiff and tight. The basketweave design is nice! I like it.

This is very eye catching, but I would literally look like a turtle if I wore this. Of course, it is worked with Super Bulky yarn and a ginormous hook, so Im wondering what this might look like scaled down to regular worsted and a smaller hook. I love Basketweave anyway and the instructions are simple enough, so I might give this a try.
