Gina Messy Bun Hat
"This hat is made from the top down, starting by crocheting over an elastic hair tie. Using post stitches, a beautiful ribbed pattern is created on the hat. Using a special technique called crocheting in the third loop, we create a neat looking "knit look" design along the brim of the hat. Don't get intimidated, you CAN crochet in the third loop, I explain everything and make it easy! You'll love making this bun hat design in your favorite color!"

Ive just started making Messy Bun hats and cant say enough nice things about using a hair elastic as the base. One word of cautionTEST your elastic by stretching it a few times before starting your hat. You dont want to have it break after the hat is completed. This pattern has plenty to recommend it, but I do wish there were some photos to help explain working the Half Double Crochet in the back loop.
