Canadian Maple Leaf
"To celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday I have designed a Canadian Maple Leaf for you to use to embellish your crochet projects. This pattern is available for Free on my website. You can use this embellishment to attach to your bags, hats or as I have done, a crocheted version of our Canadian Flag. I am planning to put my little Canadian Flag in my front garden for Canada Day! This pattern is crocheted with a single piece of yarn, from start to finish and you can make it with any yarn/hook combination. I recommend using a smaller hook than your yarn calls for to get the stitches nice and tight. The maple leaf I crocheted uses 100% Cotton Yarn (Creme de la Creme from Red Heart) and a 3.75 mm F hook. The leaf is worked from the base to the tip and then around the exterior of the leaf to create the left ‘arm’, stem and right ‘arm’. A final round of slip stitches is worked around the outside to help the leaf maintain it’s shape. Gauge is not imperative for this project - just try to make your stitches snug and fairly tight together for the main leaf. Work all slip stitches before the final round in a relaxed tension / gauge because you will need to work into them for the final edging round. You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern - just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size of your project will also be different. Happy Canada Day! Happy 150th Birthday Canada!"
