We are expecting a new addition to the family in early December, and the parents have chosen not to know the gender ahead of time. Thats no problem with this project as it would be adorable on either a baby boy or girl. I love the wide stripes, too. We get winter here, so the earflaps are always appreciated. The pattern is also available to print out or download as a .pdf.

Very cute. But I agree, the green bell just doesnt do it.silver or change it to a pompom. I just have to make one for each of my twin grandsons to match the striped outfits I made for them. They will look so cute and since this pattern is so easy I can make then over two nights. Thank you for sharing this great pattern.

A stinking green bell?! HOW ADORABLE! This "Candy Cane Elf Hat" is so adorable. I just love the red and white striping. The use of a braided style tassel coming off the ear flaps is nice! I don't know why I never thought of that. I always end up using a chain stitch. A charity project would be to make these and give them to the babies in the hospital over the holidays.
