Even though this functional little beanie looks like its made with chunky yarn, the pattern actually calls for regular medium weight worsted. Whats really different is that the hat is worked from the top down, and the ribbed brim created using Post stitches. I always use that method myself when I want to add a rolled up brim. Much easier than working the traditional ribbing first.
