Chain 11 . In the fourth ch from the hook, work 4 dc. Work 1 dc in each of the next 4 ch. In the next ch, work 1 hdc. In the next ch, work 1 sc. In the last ch, 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st. Now work up the other side of the leaf. 1 sc in first ch. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 dc in each of the next 4 ch. 4 dc in the last ch. Do not cut yarn.
-
To add the stem, use same yarn and ch 5. Turn and 1 sc in each chain. Sl st in the first stitch of the leaf. Fasten off and keep 15 inch length of yarn to sew leaf onto hat.
Attaching Leaves to Hat
Using the photograph for leaf placement, sew both leaves to the hat. To attach, start at the bottom of the leaf (not the tip) sew right along center line (vein) of each leaf. When you get to the tip, turn round and sew again right up the vein again over the first row of stitching. Weave in end of yarn on one leaf. Trim off end of yarn on one of the leaves. Be sure to have the stems at the top center of the hat. When both leaves are attached, use the remaining yarn from one of the leaves to sew the stems together. Sew right through the center of the stem and then wrap the yarn around the base of the stem. Fasten off securely and weave in loose ends of yarn.
