Crochet Along: Sweet Summer Crochet Handbag
This free crochet purse pattern is a delight for summer! As a past CAL, there are even detailed instructions in parts to make it easy to follow.
We're always excited to host new things and we thought a crochet along (aka CAL) for a gorgeous bag was going to get you pumped.
We've joined forces with Bergere de France to bring you this fun Crochet Along. We're excited you're here and checking out all the fun and we hope you'll join in on your own time.
We love this summery bag and it's a fun project to welcome the changing seasons for warmer weather.
Please note that this CAL was originally released in 2016 and is now complete and ready for anyone to follow at their own pace.
Designed for spring 2016, the AllFreeCrochet Crochet Along, the Sweet Summer Crochet Handbag uses three basic stitch patterns, custom seamless transitions, and bright, light yarn to achieve the perfect summertime crochet tote.
Sweet Summer Bag Pattern
The chosen colors resemble a sandy shore and sweet tropical fruit, and its small size makes it the perfect summer companion. Best of all, this darling crochet bag is lined, so all your summertime essentials will be safe and sound.
If you love the look of this brightly accented bag half as much as we do, you'll find yourself with a new favorite crochet bag at the end of these four weeks (or however quickly or slowly you'd like to work up this lovely design)!

This is a nice bag, but as you can see from the links above, be prepared to do a LOT of clicking and scrolling through the various links. You want to do this if you want to access the video tutorials for each section. If youre comfortable working from the written pattern alone, skip all the steps and go directly to the March 28 entry. The entire pattern is shown there.

It is well past March 29. Where can I find the written pattern for this lovely bag?

I'm having problems submitting my last two photos, I keep getting an upload failed message each time I try to submit the photos. Trying this route to see if it works. And this pattern is a definite keeper!

Just came in to post my finished bag but the link to week 5 is gone. Not exactly sure where we are supposed to post the final picture so I posted it in a couple places. This being one of them.

I just love this bag, and it seems easy to make. I love the handles on it and the size of it is just perfect. I have been trying to downsize ever since my youngest child got married. But it seems I still think I need to carry a bag with everything but the kitchen sink in it. This would be perfect to finally downsize the bag I carry.

Do we have to use the Bergere yarn to make the bag and enter the contest?
AFC Editor Julia

No, you don't have to use the Bergere yarn - just be sure to post photos of your work (in progress and finished!). The contest runs through next Friday, the 25th. I hope that helps! AllFreeCrochet Site Editor

This is a really cute bag. I would love to make it but I am going to have to do some research on yarn substitutions. I wonder how it will turn out if I use a kitchen cotton? I would love to be able to throw it in the washer. Has anybody made this in a cotton yarn yet? maybe I will play around with it this weekend.

Brandi, were you able to play around with the yarn and this pattern yet? I am very interested in making this pattern as a gift for someone, but don't want to spend that much on yarn for the project. Trying to make it with a quality yarn that is more affordable, do you have any suggestions?

I just looked at this yarn and at $10.90 per skein, it's a little pricey for me. Can you or will you recommend a less expensive substitute?

I can definitely see how it could end up being an expensive project. Sometimes it's even difficult to find yarn in the same weight if you live in a more rural area, like myself. The bag might end up slightly larger, but I might suggest using a cotton yarn in a 4 weight, like Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn or even Lily Sugar 'N Cream. Both lines come in a wide array of colours and they both hold up well to repeated use. Please let us all know if you give it a try with a different cotton yarn! )

If I use a cotton yarn with a weight of 4 is it necessary to use it doubled while working the pattern? Thank you for this lovely bag

this must not be an american yarn, at least not one i am familiar with. am looking forward to making this really cute bag - tho will make it from another yarn, rated '4' since i am unable to find the yarn named. i am rating the pattern a 4 for now. may go higher or lower once i have worked it.

I have never heard of this kind of yarn. Where do we get the supplies and more importantly how much do they cost? ve a comment...
