I have looked over the Pattern Paradise website / blog a few times, but I must have missed this lovely little hat somewhere along the way. I agree with the designer that I think this hat would look awesome using cotton yarn also because regular acrylic yarns are very hot and are not absorbent in any way.

I love this Summer Joy Crochet Hat! The pattern is well written and easy to understand. I think I'll make my white band a few more rows larger then stated in the pattern. I will also be adding some crocheted butterflies to my hat with out the flowers. I'm not a big flower fan while working in the garden, the bees like them to much. LOL I love the wide brim on this hat that makes it perfect for working in the yard in the sun. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet pattern.

A wonderful hat for summer! I even like the flower, although I would probably change the layering as the white part tends to make it fade into the band. I have some very nice straw colored yarn Id love to use for this project. If I keep the white band, I can make different colored flowers to change the look.

I wonder how well this would turn out if I was to try it with a denser, more straw like type string / yarn. Maybe a hemp string / yarn would be good for helping the hat keep its shape. I worry about colour running if it gets damp though. Has anyone tried it this way?

In the summer I have a large vegetable garden. This hat would be a fun alternative to the boring hats I see in Wal-Mart and similar stores and cheaper. Really I could make more than one so I could have one to wear while one is washing. Wonder what it would look like with a vegetable instead of a flower. I will have to think about that.
