Pocket Prayer Shawl
If you don't have the time to work up a whole crochet shawl, you can still make something meaningful for someone in need. We're introducing the Pocket Prayer Shawl, just for you! These cloths with a cross pattern made from the popcorn stitch are great to carry around as a reminder of someone's healing thoughts. Because they're small, the pocket prayer shawl should be fast to crochet, and you could probably finish over a lunch hour or two. Give someone the gift of comfort with these pocket sized shawls.

I think that this is a wonderful idea. I'm in a group that has made granny square afghans for people who are struggling with different challenges. This would also make an adorable surprise pocket to attach to the back of the blanket for a person to tuck in a note or journal. They are special for a gift and I love the opportunity it gives to have a few on hand for a quick 'I'm praying for you' message for a friend or loved one.

I have made several of these now. My favorites are in pink, yellow, blue, red. I edge them with a softer, feathery yarn to match. Yes they do make up quickly. they mail easily and inside a card, they are extra special. A heart shape is also a lovely design to insert. I am so glad to have this pattern to go along with my prayer shawls. Thank you.

As an Easter surprise, I made almost 100 of these little squares to leave in the pews of our church. I attached a small note explaining what they were and inviting people to take them home. Im making another batch to donate to our local hospice now. They take almost no time to work up, use very little yarn, and are really appreciated by the recipients.

I believe that if you are creative and have some sense of imagination, you could make any kind of religious or spiritual pattern out of that center popcorn stitch. Do a namaste. Draw it out on paper first. Do a peace sign. Do a ribbon. Use a color yarn that corresponds with the ribbon-pink for breast cancer awareness, red for heart health and so on. There are many possibilities if you know a little about how patterns work up. Nice idea! Not everyone has the time to make a full size, and not everyone feels like wearing a shawl.

I am considering making several of these for certain folks who are struggling, but am not certain about the cross since I am not Christian. Has anyone modified these? The designer's idea is lovely!

I'm not making any of these, but it seems that the popcorn stitch is making the pattern. Just put the popcorns where you want them...every other stitch, or 3 per row, or just a random sprinking of them. Or, make a graph to make up your own symbol or picture. Or just make it with no popcorns at all, just a flat piece.
