I see that the title of this item is a beach mat but it could easily be used as a blanket or afghan. The colors will certainly add a pop of color to any event. The color combination makes me think of sun and fun and any boy or girl will be happy to carry this along to have something to sit on.

What a colorful beach mat. The designer made really good decisions of the selection of colors and the type of yarn. This beach mat screams take me outside in the sun because of all of the vivid colors. I really like this mat and being such an easy project, it get pushed to the top of the list of "to make".

This is so pretty yet it's super easy. The colors are what makes it unique. I see it also calls for cotton yarn. Very wise decision. At the beach you will get all sort of things on it. Like sun tan lotion gif one thing. That means toss it into the washer!

I thought perhaps this beach mat was made from a raffia type of yarn, but I don't think it is. Also, it seems to be something perfect to wrap up with after coming out of the pool or the ocean. Speaking of the ocean- the colors on here are amazing for summertime. Easy to work up with alternating rows of single crochets and double crochets, too. I think you can go tonal if you wanted, using sand and taupe colors with the occasional pop of coral and turquoise.

Does anyone know how much yarn of each color is needed. It is not stated in the pattern

Hi pawestiegirl, The amount of yarn needed is listed in the materials: The number listed next to each color type is how many balls of that color. For your Main Color (MC), you'll need 5 balls of yarn. For Contrast A you'll need 4, and so on. Hope that helps! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

So gorgeous. Love these bold and bright colors. The bright stripes make it look so tropical. This would make a great yoga mat for an early morning yoga session on the beach and for just lying on, reading a book, and taking it easy while on vacation. Looks very simple to make.

Oh wow, so gorgeous! Who among us does not LOVE a lovely, comfy beach mat. The colors are fabulous for summer and just looking at this mat makes me wish that summer was coming here in Soutb Africa, instead of winter, lol! Well, I guess there is always next summer to look forward to and here is really good reason to put up with the winter months so that we can get to summer as soon as possible, lol!
