This Fair Trade Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon Yarn from Darn Good Yarn is a must-have for your yarn collection. This intensely dyed silk ribbon yarn supports a great cause, and creates unique yarn that's perfect for any knit or crochet project.
Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon Yarn is handmade by women in fair trade co-ops. Pieces of vintage silk saris are collected and hand torn into widths of about a quarter inch, then sewn together end-to-end. The result is this stunning, exotic-looking yarn. Each skein measures 100g long and contains about 180 feet of vintage sari ribbon.
The yarn is dyed into endless color combinations, including this multi-colored collection aptly titled, "At the Bahamas." The vibrant colors are perfect for creating bright springtime and summertime items. Although this yarn may appear delicate, it is really quite tough and durable. If you have a passion for working with recycled crafts, then be sure to get your hands on this yarn today!
Darn Good Yarn prides itself on providing you with fairly traded and child labor free yarns. Business decisions are based on these principles — all of their yarn is made from recycled and Earth friendly materials and much of it is created from the colorful remnants of the production of silk saris in Nepal and Northern India. These materials are handspun and dyed by women’s groups in Nepal. Darn Good Yarn provides these women with a marketplace for the products, as well as much needed wages for their families.
