I have made several patterns of my own using jute and it can be quite uncomfortable to work with. I found that sometimes using a strand of yarn with it helps somewhat. It also gives a nice colour variation to your piece. The nice thing about using jute is that it gives you a strong finished project that will stand the test of time and will hold its shape better than typical yarn will.
