Granny Square Gift Card Envelope
"Giving a gift card? Personalize it with this fast and easy gift card envelope! Made from a simple granny square, it works up quickly and is a great project for beginners. The basic granny square has a slight modification in the last row, and then is folded in on itself to create the envelope. The pattern includes step-by-step assembly instructions, with photos. The envelope is fastened with a bow, but you could also use a button or other closure if you prefer."
Crochet HookG/6 or 4 mm hook
Yarn Weight(2) Fine (23-26 stitches to 4 inches)
Crochet Gauge26 dc x 11 rows = 4″. Use project for gauge – Finished granny square should measure approximately 5″ before seaming. Exact gauge is not critical.
Finished SizeAbout 4″ wide by 3″ tall
Materials List
- 30 yds sport weight yarn
- 8 inches contrasting yarn or ribbon for tie
- Size G / 4 mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- Yarn needle
- 2 Locking stitch markers or safety pins

Well, between the post made by princess6860504 on December 17 and today, December 19. the pattern is no longer available. In fact, if you go to the link above, it takes you to what is essentially a 404 page. I tried clicking on the link in the suggestions below but it just rerouted me back to the 404 page. Not sure what to do, but since it involves a basic Granny Square, I can probably wing it from looking at the photo.

Hmm, this has got me thinking. Not only can this be used to hold a gift card of your choice, but why not cash as well? You could also put a novelty Christmas candy inside it for a cute teacher gift. Perhaps along with a small gift card for coffee. I am always in search of easy, creative and thoughtful teacher gifts for the holidays.

Ever see a pattern and think, "why didn't I think of that?". This is one of those patterns. But I did not think of it and I am glad it is featured as a free pattern. Easy to do and you can make them in a sparkly yarn. Perfect for a gift card! Good to use up scraps of yarn as well. Thank you.
