Well, the good news is that this pattern is still available at the above link for free. She actually has it as a free download, and as of the date Im posting it, its still there. I can understand the confusion over the legals though because she does stipulate you cant SELL what you work from her pattern or change it in any way. Just out of curiosity, I searched her page for CROCHET and only found a few more free patterns.

Most patterns are not copyrighted and even if it were, the copyright only covers the written instructions and not what is made from the pattern. A pattern is a tool to create an end product. The end product cannot be claimed nor does the pattern designer have any voice in how the final product is used. Bottom line, when you buy a pattern or are given a free pattern, the pattern maker has no right to tell you what you can and cannot do with any piece you make.

This is a must save pattern. The designer of this hat rarely if ever shares patterns for free. She states that she pulled this pattern from her Etsy store and is offering for free here. So not sure how long it will be available at no cost. She also states that you cannot sell any of the hats you make using this pattern. Im not sure what the legals are on that and will have to research.

First I have to say I was so shocked to read this Note This pattern is for the use of the purchaser only. It is not meant for mass production. You MAY NOT sell items made using this pattern. For a limited usage license, please contact me for details. Thank you for respecting my work. ???? Why is this there? I try to make patterns and do sell them! So I did not download this pattern for that reason! Wish that being said, this is a sweet baby hat for the holidays. The written pattern is well written and easy to understand. Just wish I could do more with the hats after they are made, for I really don't want to make them just to give away. Thanks for sharing this free crochet pattern.

I was confused also. Not sure what the legals are on that. I am going to research it though. If someone offers you a pattern for free, I don't understand why we can't do what we want with what we make.
