This is a wonderful example of a basic beanie. You could work it up with any color that you choose, but I like the neutral tone the designer chose. We live near a couple of colleges and universities, so I see the boys wearing these year round. Working it up in a cotton yarn would be just as nice as the Vannas Choice suggested up by the designer.

Hmm, I actually would prefer doing the ribbed band in the hat as all one piece, versus other patterns I have seen where the band is worked up separately then sewn on. This way, you do not have to guess when attaching, and perhaps avoid missed stitches or misaligning the band/mismatching it.

I agree. This pattern is so simple that integrating the ribbing at the bottom wouldn't make that much difference in the look.

What a nice basic beanie. Any guy could wear it and look sharp. I have that exact same yarn and it's nice to get an idea of what the finished product will look like. The ribbing around the not tom is a great touch. I really like the entire look of this.
