I would like to make this hat for two young girls, ages 10 and 14. How can I adjust the pattern to make it smaller?

It is a cold day in NYC today and here is this lovely pattern which would be perfect. I find I can never have too many hats and this would be warm and an unique hat you don't see all over the place. I have the hook and the yarn so there is nothing to stop me. The stitch is a bit new to me but the instructions are good. Thank you.

I love working honeycomb patterns, but Im still having problems keeping my stitches even. I keep at itpractice does make perfect after allbut I do find myself pulling out the stitches every so often. Its not the fault of the designer. The pattern is well written and includes several photos. Im determined to master this stitch, and have even bookmarked the matching cowl. I especially like that she uses 2 strands of regular worsted so you dont have to buy special yarn.
