Cosmic Flapper Crochet Hat
This charming crochet beanie, the Cosmic Flapper Crochet Hat, is a darling design that's reminiscent of the days of flappers. This tight-fitting crochet hat sits close to the head and features a slight brim, much like the vintage cloche hats in fashion. Worked as a main beanie portion and then an attached crochet brim, this crochet hat looks fantastic in contrasting colors. Don't let the unevenness of the flap portion scare you, you'll be working back and forth in rows using crochet stitches of varying heights to achieve an unbalanced look to the brim. This is definitely an easy hat that looks more complicated than it is!
NotesNotes:
•The hat can be started with a Magic Ring or with the instructions given in Round 1.
•The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
•Each round is started in the same stitch as your beginning chain.
•The end of each round is joined by slip stitching in the first stitch of the round, not the beginning chain.

Hello, please can you tell me the difference between the HBhdc (Herringbone Half Double Crochet) and an ordinary Double Crochet? I haven't been crocheting long, so I may well be making a mistake! Thanks!

Hi IslandGirl57, the description of the special stitch can be found in the abbreviations section at the end of the pattern, and pasted below for your convenience: "Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HBhdc) yarn over, insert hook into the stitch being worked, yarn over, draw through the stitch and the first loop on the hook, yarn over, draw through both loops on the hook." I hope this helps! - Laura, editor of AllFreeCrochet

I cannot find the tutorial in the notes for the alt ch. ( I really love this pattern so I am hoping that your alt. ch. is the same as I have seen on youtube (instead of turning chain-sc and chain one to have no space) hope that is correct.

Hi branbo, Here are the instructions for the alt ch: after turning but before chaining, pull up a loop in the first stitch; yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. Insert your hook into the front left vertical bar of the stitch you just made and then yarn over and pull up a loop - you should have 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops... and that's it! Julia, AFC editor

Is the snowflake pictured on the band a button or is that part of the stitching? I'm guessing it's a button from giving the pattern a quick read. Thanks.
