Aspen Tweed Hat
"The Aspen Tweed Hat is two hat patterns in one! The directions include instructions on how to make the very popular messy bun hat as well as the more traditional beanie either with or without the pompom. You can make one or the other or both! This hat uses only single crochets and half double crochets. The half double crochets are worked by alternating the front loop of one stitch and then the back loop of the next stitch. This process gives your hat a wonderful texture and depth that a regular half double crochet would not."
Crochet HookN/15 or 10 mm hook
Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)
Crochet Gauge9 single crochet stitches and 10 rows in a 4” (10cm) square.
Finished SizeMessy Bun Hat: 10.75” Width x 8.25” Height Full Beanie with pompom: 10.75” Width x 11.25” Height

This is actually a double pattern in that you get directions for both a beanie style as well as messy bun hat. Since both are worked from the brim up, its really only a matter of where you stop that decides which form you end up with. The designer uses an unusual pattern using alternating Front and Back Loops to work the stitches. The wonderful close up photo showing exactly where they are is excellent.

I dont make all of the patterns that I find on here. Sometimes it is just fun to surf through this site to see how some of the designers photograph their projects. Some just take a basic photo while others go the extra step to set up the photo perfectly. This is a great photo of the hat and some time was taken on this one.
