This Baby Bottle Cozy and Bib is a great set for any newborn baby to have. The bottle cozy matches the bib for a fun meal. Two colors of worsted weight yarn are used for this free crochet pattern. This would make an awesome homemade gift idea for any expectant mom-to-be. Customize the look of this pattern by using pink, blue, or yellow yarn (depending on the baby's gender). It's an easy crochet pattern to complete.

Easy

Crochet HookF/5 or 3.75 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

  • RED HEART® “Eco-Cotton™ Blend”: 2 Balls each 1645 Moss A and 1370 Candy Marl B.
  • Crochet Hook: 3.75mm [US F-5].
  • Swivel clasp, 1” steel ring or key ring, yarn needle.

SIZE:
Bib: 17” x 7” (including straps).
Tall Bottle Cozy: 7” circumference x 6” tall (excluding strap).
Short Bottle Cozy: 10” circumference x 3½” tall (excluding strap).
Gauge/Tension:

GAUGE: 23 sts = 4”; 14 rows = 4” in pattern st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the specified gauge.

Note: Work in back loops only throughout unless otherwise stated.

Stripe Sequence: Working in pattern st, work 2 rows with A, 2 rows with B. Repeat last 4 rows for Stripe Sequence.

BIB
With A, ch 41.
Row 1 (Right Side): Working in back loops only, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, work 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, *skip 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st; repeat from * to last 3 sts, sc in next st, skip next st, sc in last st.
Working in Stripe Sequence and carrying color not in use along side of work, repeat Row 2 until 24 rows have been worked.

Left Tie
Row 25 (Right Side): Working in back loops only and keeping in Stripe Sequence, ch 1, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * once more, slip st in next st, leave remaining sts unworked for Right Shoulder Tie.
Row 26: Turn, skip slipped st, sc in next st, skip next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st, skip next st, sc in last st.

Row 25 (Right Side): With right side facing, skip next 14 sts along Row 24 of Bib. Keeping in Stripe Sequence and working in back loops only, join A with slip st in next st, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st, skip next st, sc in last st.
Row 26: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, place marker in last st made, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, slip st in next st.
Fasten off A.
Row 27: With right side facing, join B with sc in marked st, sc in next st, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st, skip next st, sc in last st, turn.

Edging

Row 1: With right side facing, join A with sc in side of Row 1, work 61 sc in evenly spaced along edges of rows to last row of Tie, work 7 sts across Tie as established, work 39 sts evenly spaced along edge of Tie to 14 center sts, work across 14 sts as established, work 39 along opposite Tie, work 7 sts across Tie as established, work 61 sts evenly spaced along edge Bib to Row 1.
Fasten off.

BOTTLE COZY
Instructions are written for Tall Bottle Cozy with Short Bottle Cozy in parentheses.

Body
With A, ch 34 (20).
Work same as for Bib through Row 14.
For Tall Bottle Cozy
Row 15 (Right Side): Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, *3 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * 2 more times, holding Ring on top of fabric, continue in pattern working next 3 sts through hole of Ring and into sts of Cozy, work as established to end of row.
For Short Bottle Cozy
Row 15 (Right Side): Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, skip 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, holding Ring on top of fabric, continue in pattern working next 3 sts through hole of Ring and into sts of Cozy, work as established to end of row.
For Both Sizes
Row 16: Repeat Row 2.
Row 17: Repeat Row 15.
Rows 18-24 (36): Repeat Row 2.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

FINISHING
Fold Cozy in half, matching sts from Row 1 with Row 24 (36), and whipstitch edges together.

Base
With A, ch 4, slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc in ring – 6 sc.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.

Strap Edging
Row 1: Join A with sc in side of first row where Strap meets Body, sc 32 sts evenly spaced to top of Strap, work in pattern as established across Strap, working down side of Strap, sc 32 sts evenly spaced along edge of Strap to Body, slip st into Body.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.

This is a cute pattern. I think it would be more practical if you're able to sew some kind of backing onto the bib and a liner into the bottle cozies. If you'd prefer a PDF of the pattern to print, you can get it at the coats and clark web site; just search for Baby Bottle Cozy and Bib (just in case the link below doesn't work).
