"Our latest creation is a lion. Of course, without his mane, he would make a lovely lioness! Finished Size: Approximately 29 cm (11.5 inches) long and 20 cm (8 inches) tall. Materials: • Yarn 8 ply/DK or appropriate in yellow (approx. 260 m, 285 yards) and brown (approx. 100 m, 110 yards)(see note below) • Crochet hook (3 mm) or appropriate • Safety eyes and nose (optional) • Stuffing You can use any yarn and crochet hook combination that gives you good tension (a hook two sizes smaller than recommended). The pattern is written in English with US crochet terminology."

This is a wonderful lion! As the designer suggests, you can leave off the mane and have a lioness instead. It would be so easy to create the characters from the Lion King, or work the mane in gold, and youd have the famous Aslan from Narnia. You could also work it with no mane, in black, and youd have Kiplings Bagheera. Lots of possibilities with this one.
