"This 12 inch Rising Sun Afghan Square is the perfect addition to any afghan. The center motif is reminiscent of a rising sun. This square may look intricate but it is made up of simple stitches so it's easy to work up. You can also add or remove a few rounds to adjust the size. This pattern is worked in the round using a size I crochet hook and worsted weight yarn. This square is also block 15 of the 2016 Moogly CAL."

Not really the colors that I think about when I read rising sun, or at least not from where I live. I think yellows, oranges, and reds when I think of the sun rising. That would be an easy fix though because colors are always an easy customization on almost any piece. 12 x 12 is a great size for an afghan square.

This project is part of a Crochet Along, so its perfect for most beginners. It strikes me as a cross between a large Granny Square and a mandala. Its designed to be part of a large afghan, but I think it would work well as a stand alone pillow cover. You could either work another 12 inch block in the same, solid, or different block and stitch the corners together. Stuff it with a small pillow, and it would even be reversible.
