Grapevine Lap Afghan
"This free crochet pattern is for a lovely afghan made with the block stitch. This blanket is fun to make and so pretty to look at! Video tutorial included for the fringe. Made with lovely purple and green spring/summer colors but could easily be made with team or school colors! Made with a bulky weight yarn but could be made with any size yarn. Easily customizable to any size blanket. A fun and easy project!"

I forget about just how striking that Block Stitch can be. The designer mentioned working this project up in specific team colors, and I think thats a brilliant idea. The designer also makes it slightly larger than a typical afghan, but I was thinking of making it smaller and turning it into a lapghan instead. Id also change the first row to a Foundation DC instead.
