Christmas Hat and Tree Granny Squares
"These two granny squares would make an adorable Christmas blanket. They are easy and don't need a lot of time to make. You only need to know the basic crochet stitches. The measurement for one square is approximately 11 cm x 11 cm, 4.3 inch x 4.3 inch. You are going to need: -The yarn I used is called Florence 100% cotton 50 g/ 125 meter in colours red, green and white. Fifteen 5 mm beads and a star for the tree. I had black ones, so I painted them with a gold nail polish. I tried making the pompom with the cotton yarn, but it looked very stiff and not fluffy. So I made them with Plymouth Encore DK (75% acrylic 25% wool) in white. -Hook size 3.5 mm. -Tapestry needle."
Crochet HookE/4 or 3.5 mm hook
Yarn Weight(2) Fine (23-26 stitches to 4 inches)

I have been able to add a couple of Holiday approprite granny squares to my collection every year. This time I found two in the same post. Over the years I have made items from pillows to lapgans to wall hangings to coasters. I am not sure how these will be used but they will be created.

Do you know what I like the best about this free pattern? The many, many step by step pictures shown with instructions below that correspond. I think all patterns should be written out this way, especially ones written for beginners. I'm not a beginner! But this is the best way for me to read a pattern! I love it! How adorable would this be, to use these squares as an actual applique on a solid color Christmas afghan.

These are so cute. I think mine will be connected into a table runner. Instead of a Pom Pom, I will just substitute white yarn in a circle pattern so there won't be a problem if you set something on it. I may also make them into a stocking. Thank you for ending up the possibilities!

These are so cute. Love both the hat and the tree but I think my favorite is the Santa hat. Its just too adorable. I thought about using those as coasters but then realized the pompom or the tree ornaments might cause spills since they wouldnt create an even surface. I noticed that there is also a poinsettia square pattern available for purchase.

These are clever little squares, arent they? The hat and tree are worked separately, and if you wanted, you could stop there and turn them into Christmas ornaments. The designer takes the crafter step by step through the entire process, especially where you join the background yarn for the actual square. Im not very familiar with this designer, but her Bobble snowflakes at the top of the page are just stunning.
