First Time Tunisian Crochet by Margaret Hubert will teach you everything you need to know about Tunisian crochet. Step-by-step instructions for the basics are included, as well as five patterns to test out your skills. Also called "afghan crochet," Tunisian crochet is a a needlework technique that combines elements from both knitting and crocheting. A special hook (called an afghan hook) is needed to complete this method of crochet.
The first part of the book walks you through the various stitches you need to complete a Tunisian crochet pattern. Stitches include the Tunisian simple stitch, mesh stitch, seed stitch, purl stitch, cable stitch, chevron stitch, and more. There are color pictures and diagrams to help teach you, as well.
Once you've familiarized yourself with the common Tunisian crochet stitches, test your new skills out on any one of the five free patterns inside First Time Tunisian Crochet. Choose from a Tunisian Stripes Throw (pg. 13), Tunisian Stripes Bag (pg. 17), Tunisian and Shells Wristlet (pg. 21), Baby Diamonds Blanket (pg. 24), and the Vested Interest children's vests (pg. 27). An abbreviation guide is also available on the last page of the book in case you have any questions as you work.
