please help, i need to make the blanket bigger. i dont understand the add or subtract 13 5 from beginning that banshee speaks of

I am confused by the border instructions, (make 2 sc in first 4 rows, make 1 sc in next row, make 2 sc in next 3 rows). I need a better explanation so I can finish this blanket please.

Hi jandtsmom, I'm sorry you're having trouble with the border instructions. To crochet the border you will be working along the side of the blanket, so your stitches will be worked into the side of the last stitch at the end of the rows worked previously. The number of stitches you work into each row varies, as noted in the pattern: (make 2 sc in first 4 rows, make 1 sc in next row, make 2 sc in next 3 rows). I hope this helps clarify the border for you. If not, I'd recommend asking our friendly crochet community group on Facebook here: https://business.facebook.com/groups/allfreecrochet. - Laura, editor of AllFreeCrochet

Absolutely beautiful blanket, quick and easy too.br /br /I could use done advice on the boarder, I'm not understanding it.

that should be 13 plus 5

Add or Subtract multiples of 13 5 to the beginning chain to adjust the width larger or smaller. Hope this helps

One of my favorite blanket designs. It's so pretty and unique!

Why can't I print this pattern

Right under the headline, there are colorful buttons for Pinterest and Facebook. Click the "more" button and you will see a button with a printer on it. Click that and you can easily print.

Usually, you can right click your mouse and a screen will pop up to show several options, ie save, print, etc. click print. All computers are not the same but this works on my HP.

Hi can you tell me how to make it bigger please. Thank you!

Hi, I was wondering if you knew the multiples? I would love to make my first project this pattern as a larger blanket. Thank you for sharing this with us. Its beautiful!

I was wondering if you can write a pattern for the dragon fly cut out by itself? Trying to figure it out tp put a couple dragon flies into a scarf and its not working out so well lol

Hi there! I found a few different tutorials that might work: Here is a dragonfly scarf pattern: https://www.allfreecrochet.com/Scarves/Dragonfly-Flower-Garden-Scarf Here is a pattern for coasters that you can use as a jumping off point to make a scarf: https://www.allfreecrochet.com/Kitchen-and-Dining/Dragonfly-Coasters I hope that helps!

I am starting my 4th one!! I modified the pattern just a bit by using variegated yarns and it takes almost 4 skeins to make this incredibly beautiful blanket. I did the first one in lavenders and blues for a friend who had just lost her daughter. This new one will be in rainbow colors using Gnome from Lion Brand Mandala. They are absolutely gorgeous using Cupcakes or other variegated yarns. Thank you for sharing the pattern!!!

Mandala is too light so looking for other yarns that have a variegated rainbow colors. Try Cupcake, Bernat Pop, or Sweet Roll yarns.

This would be a beautiful blanket made in white, pink, baby blue and yellow. It could then be given as a gift of a baby girl or baby boy.

Sweet Roll, Bernat Pop or Cupcake may have all those colors or variations in one ball of yarn.

Tried this craft? What did you think?

I love the Dragonfly and this Dragonfly Crochet Blanket pattern is great! I am making one now for a baby shower gift for the summer. I'm trying to think of a nice border for this one. The pattern is well written and so easy to follow making a sweet blanket. I'm so happy to have this pattern and looking forward to finishing my baby blanket. Making it in pink and gray using Red Heart babyhugs yarn. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet blanket pattern.

As soon as I saw this pattern I thought 'pink and gray' for my daughter (36 next month) - and then I scroll down and see your pic. Great job - it's beautiful.

Thank you

Thank you for sharing your pattern. I am making mine using Caron Simply Soft in Strawberry and Off White in alternate bands.

When I come across a pattern with a lot of posts usually mean it is a great pattern to try or just the opposite. In this case, I like what I see in the way of posts. One member posted her finished project and I can see she used different colors. This is one for the save button so when I need a special blanket, I will not have far to look.

I can see the dragonfly in the pattern but more pictures would have been appreciated. Because of the unique design this is a great pattern to complete if you like the unusual and not just the ordinary. Like the multiple colors but I would go with fewer. Thanks for this beautifully unique pattern.

I love the dragonfly pattern! Whoever devised it is a genius! I'm using it in a prayer shawl right now, just changed the size of the above blanket. So pretty!

Is this pattern still available? All I can see is instructions for the border? Thank you

Hi Sammer - Sorry about that! Yes, the full pattern is still available, there was a slight glitch that was preventing part of our layout from showing up but it's fixed now. :) Julia, AFC editor

Wonderful. Thank you! I can't wait to start on this beautiful blanket.

Wonderful. Thank you! I can't wait to start on this beautiful blanket!

I LOVE this pattern. I made this for my adult daughter so I repeated rows 7 through 12 until it was the length I wanted. I did about 93rows

Can you tell me what the multiples are. I would like to make this pattern bigger. This is so beautiful and I don't need a baby blanket right now but I want to make it. Thanks so much for the beautiful pattern Texas Nana

I repeated rows 7 though 12 until I got the length I wanted.

I am having a problem with the split crochet stitch. This is a new stitch for me. I have watched some tutorials and have practiced a little, but they really arent helping me, as they seem split two single crochet stitches from the previous row, and I only have the one crochet stick by itself in the previous row. Can you describe to me a little better about where to insert my hook? Sorry to be a bother, but I am rather excited about this project, and want to get it right.

Hi Rachelle I have made two of these afghans and I'm starting on number tonight I understand EXACTLY how you feel with the split crochet stitch it gave me tennis elbow the first time I made it with all of the wrenching and forcing the hook into that tiny little v space of the single crochet in both places Until i had a had a genius moment Instead of using an h or i hook i began switching out the larger hook with an e or f hook for just the body of the bug and voila those smaller hooks slid right in between catching the stitch below EXACTLY where I wanted it to go and with ease No more stressed out elbow tendons I hope you try this it made completing the rest of the afghan a pleasure and saved my sore elbow now completely healed from a constant wrestlingRead More match

I am new to using patterns to crochet, so I'm finding the instructions slightly confusing here x.x for the row 2 "In first stitch make an alt-ch, dc in next 7 stitches" does that equal 8 stitches total, or will the first stitch be included in the 7 total stitches? Also, when said to repeat, am I supposed to do the 7 alt-ch, dc/ ch.1 skip / 12 dc pattern?

Hi there the Alt-ch is a different type of turning ch Instead of chaining to turn then working a dc in the second stitch for double crochet stitches when you finish your previous row turn but don't chain anything Begin by pulling up a loop in the first stitch of the row Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook You have just made a SC stitch Insert your hook into the front left vertical bar of the stitch you just made and yarn over Pull up a loop You will now have two loops on the hook Yarn over and pull through both loops Thats it -- this is just a different way of chaining to avoid that gap in the first stitch You can easily just ch and turn Then after that turning method either way you will work additional double crochet stitches so it's dc plusRead More your alt-ch

And then for your second question: you only repeat what's in between the marks/the stars. In this case, for row two, after you do the alt-ch, dc in the next 7 stitches - you repeat this down the row:*ch 1, skip next stitch, dc in next 12 stitches*

Hi! I have been crocheting for over 50 years (geeze I'm a geezer) and I had never heard of the alt-ch. It makes a fantastic smooth edge and I loved it so much I used it in the next several afghans. I will admit it was a tad awkward at first, but just take your time and follow the instructions and it will come out perfect!

I loved the dragonfly pattern. Will make one blanket soon for winters. I came across this, sharing some great crochet supplies http//ideas4diy.com/crochet-supplies

I already have a Butterfly Hat pattern, and this would pair so well with that for a baby gift. You could work it in a solid color (like the submitted photo), but I actually like it better with the different colored stripes. The Butterfly Stitch is one of the easiest fancy stitches to work, and its become one of my favorites, too. I do wish this post had a photo or two of how to work the Butterfly body, but there are plenty of other projects that do.

Is it ok if I print copies of this to share with my charity group, Bellasbabies.org? Thank you.

Hi bellabambinaknits, That's fine. You just cannot repost or sell this pattern anywhere. You're free to print it out though! :) Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

Thank you!! It's great pattern.

I found that if you want to make it bigger, add in multiples of 13 plus 5. I had to rip out my work several times and dig around online until I finally found where someone mentioned the plus 5 turning chain. I hope this saves someone the headache I got trying to start this pattern!

i have read your comment but have no idea what you mean. i want to make this for my mom but it definitly needs to be bigger

I have the perfect place in my house to drape this dragonfly blanket. It has colors that go with pretty much any decor, save for a country blue and red decor. What a great play blanket for the grandkids, too. Take it to the park. On a road trip. I wonder how long it took the designer to come up with the dragonfly design and perfect the stitches?

Tried this craft? What did you think?

Thank you for the excellent video. I would never have thought of printing out a small color wheel to take yarn shopping with me. Great idea!

I really want to make this for a friend of mine who loves dragonflies but I don't know hot to work it out so that I can make it larger, for a throw rather than a baby blanket. Can you advise me on how to do that? I want to make it for a birthday gift in September of this year, so if you can help with the answer right away that would be great! Thanks!

Hi kenziewood, That's a super great question! Because of the specific stitch patterns, you'll want to make sure you keep any stitch counts the same when increasing. My suggestion would be to ask our community of talented bloggers on Facebook to see if any of them can offer any advice. :) Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

Where can I get a color wheel like Chris suggested?

This is a very cute blanket. The dragonflies add to the uniqueness of it. Looks almost like a tropical rainbow or rainbow sherbet with the combination of these colors. I dont have a color wheel. Where might I purchase one or is that something I would just print from the internet?

I love Hobby Lobby's I Love this Yarn, and this pattern is a sweet as sweet can be. That yarn will make it really soft and nice. The dragonflies are just as sweet as can be. I like the picture someone posted of it done in pink. They have added a gorgeous lacy edge around it. Can anyone share how that was done?

Thanks for reminding me about the color wheel. Taking one with you to buy yarn is a great idea!

LOVE this pattern. Making for a friend, but 36 X 36 is too small 72 X 72 seems too wide. How might I adjust this pattern for an adult throw? Perhaps closer to 48 X 72? Thank you for your time.

I love dragonflys and I so want to make this beautiful Dragonfly Crochet Blanket. After reading the written pattern on this page I have to do a search to understand how to do the Alternate DC Turning Chain . I don't understand how to do it? Any help would be great! With that being said, I have saved this pattern and will come back to it later after I learn this stitch..Love learning new stitches.. Thank you so much for sharing this free pattern.

Once you turn your work, single crochet in the first st of the row. do not make any starting chain stitches. Then working through the vertical bar on the front of that single crochet, make another single crochet. This stack of 2 single crochet look like a double crochet and eliminate the gap a chain 3 would have caused. If you google search for Alternate DC Turning Chain, you will find some excellent picture and video tutorials. Good luck!

Thanks so much, but is there a video tutorial??? I tend to do better when I actually see it being done, visual makes me happy.

We can't put links in the comments here, but as I mentioned above, if you google search for Alternate DC Turning Chain, you will find the tutorials you need.

thank you, that really helped me more than I can say

Hi, if I wanted to make this blanket bigger how would I do that? Excuse my ignorance as I am new to crochet and haven't figured it all out yet. Thank you so very much for your time and assistance. Be blessed

This is so cute. I have pictures of my grandson touching dragonfly's. This is a perfect blanket. Thanks.

how do I print the pattern

Hi carolw, To print, you can click the print button up near the title and byline, or you can simply highlight the pattern and hit ctrl and P on your keyboard to print the highlighted section. I hope that helps! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

This Dragonfly Crochet Blanket Pattern is very appropriate as a christening gift or as a baby shower present. The little one may not yet appreciate the dragonfly design in the blanket but as he grows up, the insect design can be introduced to the child and he/she will definitely enjoy the sight of that dragonfly in his blanket. It helps that the free pattern is presented in a clear manner, very well-organized, written in simple language, and properly numbered.

Sorry, but not sure what " alt-ch " refers to in the pattern. I looked for this abbreviation on line and found a tutorial for an "Alternate DOUBLE crochet" stitch, but then also found a site for "alternate or chainless double crochet", so not sure what it means. Can you clarify/simplify this for me? THanks in advance )

very last page gives instruction for special stitches-

On first row of border in brackets should that say 4 stitches in stead of 4 rows(make 2 sc in first 4 rows, make 1 sc in next row, make 2 sc in next 3 rows) Read more at http//www.allfreecrochet.com/Crochet-Afghan-Patter == ns/Dragonfly-Crochet-Blanket-Pattern#rtgpsATgBOEtP == CQp.99

please give us the multiples to enlarge it. ex 122. thank you.

On another site the designer says to enlarge it use multiples of 13.

a previous comment said multiples of 13 plus 5

Can't seem to get my wings lined up with the body.

My daughter-in-law loves dragonflies and would love this afghan. She'd want it for a queen sized bed -- how can I enlarge the pattern to make it for her. I'm a competent enough crocheter to follow the pattern, but not enough to figure out how to enlarge it.

I would also like to know how to enlarge it.

did you find out how to enlarge this blanket?

i would also like to know how to enlarge this pattern

I love this yarn from hobby lobby is the best. Going to give this one a go but in different colors

I love the look of this Dragonfly Crochet Blanket. The pattern is well written and I like the Alternate DC Turning Chain stitch. It's always nice to learn something different to make my craft look better. Like the post below, I think it will look nice in one solid color. The dragonfly will stand out better. Thank you for this free pattern I'll be making.

Agree with you Cheryl, I think this would look really nice in one color with maybe the border in a nice coordinating color. I think the rainbow colors might hide the dragonfly pattern too much and it's so unique you want it to stand out, not be hidden. Can't wait to try this pattern, seems very well written.

This is going to look just beautiful done entirely in a soft pastel blue , hanging on the wall in my twin grandsons room. Their parents have some imperfections in the wall and this is going to cover them as well as adding a cozy warm touch to the new guys room. Thanks for sharing.
