I think I have enough grocery bags to make this. I save them and when I think about it I will take them to the recycle spot in the Walmart. It has been a while since I have thought enough about them to grab them to recycle. This will be the perfect opportunity to recycle and have the ability to reuse. This should be a pretty solid item and can last a while before it goes to the recycle bin.

Plarn. That is a fun word. I have been wanting to make one of these for a while and have recently been given the kick in the pants with this post. This plarn grocery bag is really pretty. I love the way the bags came together to make such a wonderful piece. The ribbon is what really took it to the next level.

This was actually the first plarn project I ever tried. It was a little stop and go because I didnt have all the bags necessary for the bag, but the nice thing about plarn is that you can add to it as you go. Fortunately, the family grocery store at the foot of the hill had the exact red and white variety I needed, so between our shopping and the neighbors, I finally finished the bag. I just love it, and people are always asking what its made of.

I have seen other plarn bags before, but never with the ribbon. I think the ribbon makes the bag look nicer. I attempted to make plarn before, but i am too impatient, so i didn't really get far. I think I may need to try again. Thank you for this pattern.

This is just precious. I can't wait to make one. Thank you for the pattern

I have made two of these bags now for end of year gifts and they are amazing. Everyone who has seen it loves it and they turn out beautifully. What a fun pattern and what a great idea. Thanks for this great project!

Great! I am so glad you like it!

how do you prepare the bags to be crocheted? I like to try the pattern but it doesn't say how to prep the bags to crochet them. Thanks Tammy

You have to look further down the page at the comments. I think she missed pasteing it in when she mentions it previous to the directions. lol http://thecrochetfoyer.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-make-plarn.html

My son gave me a tote bag made with plarn many years ago. It was made by the sister of one of his shipmates, who happened to be American Indian. I guess they made these bags on the reservation to sell at craft fairs. I am so happy you showed how to make the plarn and the adorable shopping bag. I'm gonna give it a whirl, too. Thank you.

You are very welcome. Thanks for checking it out. Happy Mother's Day!

I made one but I like the way you put the ribbon through it. Nice job.....

Thank you!
