I like making these with left over yarn. You can change the color of the cross-stitches. This is a super easy pattern you can literally make in about a half hour or LESS! I saw some people had a problem with the cross-stitch row. The first stitch just holds up the row end. If you don't know how to do a cross-stitch, check on YouTube. But you are basically just skipping a stitch, then go back and do the one you skipped IN FRONT OF the one already there. It's a lot easier than it sounds. (Maggie's Crochet has the best video on YouTube.)

This quick to work up project is great to keep the fingers busy on a cold winter day. No tricky stitches here (unless you count the Double Crochet Crossed Stitch), so it makes it a wonderful project for a Beginner. The designer has the crafter use a double strand of worsted, but if you have any Bulky yarn lying around, that would be just fine to use as well.

Hat looks great and works up pretty quick. The designer stated that she made this hat when she was home with her kids on a snow day and her husband works for Coke delivering drinks and was waiting for a call from him to know he is safe. My ex-husband worked for Coke also and they never let their trucks out if they thought it was too dangerous so I am sure he was fine.

My husband is now retired, but because he was one of the few university librarians who lived in town, he was usually called in to unlock the doors--even on his day off! He's not a skilled bad weather driver so I always worried about him, too.

Also having an issue beginning row 9. Unforturnate because I really like the pattern. Hopefully someone can offer some more help

on round 9 10, you chain three, then you work a double crochet into the stitch to the right of the chain three which is also the last stitch you did to finish the round. Then going back to the left of the chain three, which is the normal direction in which you crochet, you skip the next stitch and work a double crochet in the next, once you work the double crochet, work a double crochet in the stitch to the right of the just worked double crochet which is also the skipped stitch. You continue this same pattern around. It took me a couple of tries to figure this out but once you get it, it's really easy to do.

Begining row9 the pattern says to work in front of chain three. What does this mean? Do I backtrack????

Hi wwjd469, I believe it means that you create double crochet stitch in the base of the chain three instead of skipping the next stitch as you go. If you have a specific project question, I would suggest asking the blog owner as he or she has created the pattern and would know more about it than us. :) I hope that helps! Do you have adjustments to make various sizes...I have a 7 month old and a 2 year old, and then of course myself as an adult?

Go to Vallieskids blog and scroll down to Nov 26, 2011 comment from KHAdams for enlarging hat. This made hat a bit too large for me, but I reduced number of increases down in the Round 5 repeat of Round 4 and now hats fits better.

I've made 18 of these hats to donate to charity. I don't understand why so many people are having problems getting the pattern! You "Click Here for Crochet Pattern" and it goes to Vallieskids blog page. Then scroll down past a few photos and the pattern is there, plain as day, in white font against dark background. Follow advice to use a double strand and you can create a hat in under two hours!

I would like to make this for myself and my teenage grandaughter, what would I need to change?

Hi, everyone. We're so sorry to hear you are having trouble accessing this pattern. The link is working fine for us. There seems to be an issue with sites powered by Blogger at the moment, as we have seen similar things with other patterns on Blogger sites. Until the issue is resolved, we suggest using a different Internet browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome. I am using Firefox, for example, and I am able to access the pattern successfully. Thank you all for your patience! We apologize for any inconvenience. --Editors of AllFreeCrochet
