Victorian Blush Snowflake Ornaments and Gift Tags

These dainty "snowflakes" (which are really flowers), will add a touch of old-fashioned charm to your tree or gifts this holiday season. I'd suggest using a smaller hook for the tags and a larger hook for the ornaments, but really it's up to you. My gift tag came out to be 2 1/4" across with I used #10 thread and a 1.5mm steel hook. You could try using #20 or #30 cotton thread and a smaller steel hook if you want really tiny "snowflakes". Likewise, you could use a 4mm (G) hook and #2 sport weight yarn to make larger "snowflakes".

In addition to using them as gift tags, these dainty snowflakes would look lovely on a smaller tree as ornaments, too. I love the compact medallion shape. These arent hard to work up (although the designer doesnt provide any other photos), and you can definitely alter the size of the flakes by changing the yarn, the hook size or both. Be sure to work them in cotton if you plan to stiffen them.

Do you want a classic looking tree adorned with snowflakes that don't melt? How about making a few dozen of these for yourself? This pattern creates snowflakes that are more flower-like, versus snowflakes with pointed edges. It gives them a softer look on the eye. She suggests using them as gift tags- a brilliant idea. Try combining two thread colors for a unique look. White with gold, or white with silver!
